Fantasy is a genre with endless possibilities. Some stories invite you to settle into a warm and magical world where the stakes are gentle and the atmosphere feels comforting. Others pull you through a doorway into something unfamiliar where adventure, danger, and discovery wait on the other side.
As a writer I love exploring different corners of the genre. Two of my published fantasy books reflect that contrast perfectly. While both contain magic and imaginative worlds they offer very different reading experiences depending on what kind of story you’re in the mood for.
A Taste of Cozy Magic
Spellbound Sugar is a cozy fantasy that leans into warmth, charm, and the quiet magic that can exist in everyday moments. Instead of epic battles or world-ending stakes, cozy fantasy focuses on atmosphere, relationships, and the small joys of magical life.
It’s the kind of story you can curl up with on a quiet afternoon. A gentle escape where the magic feels welcoming and the journey unfolds at a comforting pace. Best of all Spellbound Sugar is a standalone novel, so readers can experience the entire story in a single book.
Stepping Into Another World
On the other side of the fantasy spectrum is Between Worlds, the first installment in The Mistwood Duology.
Portal fantasy stories revolve around crossing from one world into another, and that moment of transition is often where the adventure truly begins. Suddenly everything changes. The rules are different, the dangers are real, and the characters must learn quickly if they want to survive.
Between Worlds introduces readers to the beginning of a much larger journey. As the first book in the duology, it lays the foundation for a story that continues to grow, deepen, and unfold in the second installment.
If You Like This Book, Then You’ll Like…
Readers often look for books that capture a similar feeling to ones they already love. Here are a few fun pairings:
If you enjoyed Legends & Lattes, you might enjoy Spellbound Sugar for its cozy magical atmosphere and character focused storytelling.
If you loved the magical journey in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, then Between Worlds might be right up your alley with its portal fantasy adventure and expanding world.
Two Paths, One Genre
That’s one of the best things about fantasy. It can be soft and comforting or bold and adventurous. Sometimes it’s a quiet magical moment. Other times it’s stepping into a completely new world.
Whether you’re in the mood for a cozy standalone escape or the beginning of a larger magical journey there’s always another door waiting to be opened.
